Salvo 5 – Actual Size
Although photography is inherently considered to be an objective medium, nevertheless a picture almost always involves scaling. For this fifth Periodical for Photography we decided to photograph as ‘actual’ as possible. Every photograph inside this publication is either printed at the same size as the object that is photographed, or is a study on how to achieve this actual representation.
Contributing editor Vibeke Mascini imagined that many mountaineers got frustrated discovering that any day-tripper can visit the top of the Mont Blanc in Haarlem. “For it was in the Teylers Museum that I saw, displayed in a glass cabinet, the top of what for centuries was known to be Europe’s highest mountain.” Actual size!
