IRIS by Stéphanie Lagarde appears as a series of three artist publications. Each publication of this fascinating conceptual work corresponds to a single poem written by Lagarde using different names of Iris plants. Irises are one of the most hybridized flowers in western countries.

Very violet florentine silk
spangled with dazzling gold,
A frosty elegance
– and blue suede shoes –
What a dance hall dandy.
A Bombay sapphire on his fairy ring
Bourgeois. But totally cool.
Pouring hot spiced wine
And three cherries in sparkling rose,
„It feels like a spring kiss, a French cancan.
Je l’adore“ said Little Sweet Sue,
Pink embers coloring her bride’s blush

The individual pictures of iris blossoms are collected online by the Paris-based artist and filmmaker. Spread over three booklets with an accompanying poem, each image represents a verse in the order of its appearance. A poem as a publication. A publication as a poem.

This image and text work, printed in vivid colours on a risograph, was produced in 2015 and 2016 in Van-Eyck’s Charles Nypels lab in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
