How do you describe your own art practice?
Improvisation / Abstraction / Musique concrete / Soft materials / deep listening / Poetry / spoken words / cut ups / contemplation / books / plants / records / travels / Animals / stones / people/ trees / minerals.
What was your first experience with art?
The Henri Matisse and Francis Bacons retrospectives at Centre Pompidou as a kid. A concert of Pierre Boulez at Ircam as a teenager. The Nirvana Unplugged. Mazzy Star on stage in the 90’s. Hal Hartley and David Lynch’s movies also as a teenager. Violence, beauty, dissonance and harmonies at the same time.
What is your greatest source of inspiration?
Landscapes and national parks, as for example the Pertrified Forest in Arizona or the Alps in France. But also the artists Alison Knowles, David Antin, John Cage, Pauline Oliveros as well as writers such as Joan Didion, Don Del Lilo or Marguerite Duras.
What do you need in order to create your work?
Love, support, space, time, good, sleep, water, humour, chocolate, wine, walks, books, records, light, birds.
What are you working on at the moment?
I am recording my new album and writing a novel that takes place mainly in the desert, and also tomorrow i fly to travel in India for 10 days.
What work or artist has most recently surprised you?
Carolee Scheeman’s retrospective at MOMA PS1, the anthology of concrete poetry by Emmet Williams published by Something Else Press / Primary Informations, Robert Ashley’s music.
